I have at least 5 different type of algae in the tank right now. There is the fuzzy red algae which is continuing to reemerge. The fuzzy green algae which is far less attractive continues to recede. There is also pink coralline algae which you can see as a soft blush on the exposed areas of the rock. There are two areas, one at the front bottom and another at on the left side of bright green algae which lays fairly flat on the rock. There is also a sort of algae that clings to the glass and heater; it is beige and cobwebby and there never seems to be that much of it. It wipes away very easily. Because of its gossamer texture I haven’t been able to get a good picture of it. (All images: click for larger image.)
Then there is the macroalgae. Since the last time I photographed it and took a count a veritable forest of this algae has sprung up. I’ve counted at least 15 sprigs of it all over the rock. It’s still rather small as you can see from the photo of the whole rock above. In this closeup image of the clump at the back of the rock you can see that it’s clearly segmented and has grown quite a bit since the last photo I took. It looks similar to a photo I’ve seen of Halimeda which is a calcarerous algae. I’m pleased to see this sprouting everywhere.
